The work of LMV Shanko
invites the viewer into a world that is both petrifying and alluring.
Initially it maybe unclear whether the artist is welcoming you into this
alien and unconventional world or scaring you away from it, but the longer
the work is absorbed, the more one senses and opens to the strange joy
inherent in the situations portrayed and willingly suspends judgment.
Shanko's work deconstructs the outdated notion that death and bedevilment
are loathesome subjects by injecting these otherworldly states with dynamism
and vitality. By revealing an optimistic energy at junctures where
lethargic hopelessness has typically been displayed, the artist is also
providing a subtle critique of modern, socio-political structures. These
pieces are at once scary, humorful and thought-provoking which by definition
makes them wonderful works of art.
